There is a lot that goes into starting a clinical or population research study.

In fact, many of these studies can take years to get off the ground. Not to mention recruiting, which is a task in and of itself.

Given the difficulties surrounding the rigorous process ahead of those embarking upon these studies, the University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Medical School is providing research study teams with a roadmap for research success.

The Nuts and Bolts of Executing a Clinical or Population Research Study is a virtual series that helps lay the groundwork and give researchers the tools to make a positive impact in healthcare.

About the ‘Nuts and Bolts’ Program

The series consists of one-hour discussion forums spanning several topics aligned with running a clinical or population research study.

Previous topics include recruitment and retention, navigating IRBs, HIPAA protections, developing study protocols and procedures, and more.

The program was designed for faculty and staff involved in clinical or population research with the material giving them an opportunity to advance and refine their research approach.

Sessions in the series began in August 2024 and course lectures related to these topics are available to watch on NIH’s YouTube Playlist or NIH’s VideoCast website.

Participants were also given the option of registering for the entire course through the Introduction to the Principles and Practices of Clinical Research webpage.

Upcoming Sessions

However, there is still time left to participate, and two more sessions scheduled for the months of March and April.

Hiring and Managing a Research Team is scheduled on Zoom from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025. You can submit questions for the panelists in advance.

The last session in the series, Everything you Ever Wanted to Ask a PI but Never Had the Chance to – Part 2 (faculty panel), is set for 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
